“Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.”

Have you heard the story of the brave and positive young man from China?
It happened in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Liu Xiang became the first man to win for China an Olympic gold in athletics.
It is true that China has won more than 100 Olympic gold medals since 1984 but this is one of the greatest moments in China Olympic history.
Liu Xiang was cared for by his grandparents for much of his childhood. As a child, Liu Xiang was much taller than most of his peers. Thus, his sports teachers encouraged him to train for the high jump. However, when he was about fifteen years old, his dreams were slashed when a bone test showed that he would not grow tall enough to become a world-class high jumper.
His parents withdrew him from the sports school and Liu Xiang’s future would probably have to be rewritten if he had not been spotted by Sun Haiping, a prominent hurdles coach. He thought Liu Xiang’s rhythm was excellent and fitted in well to the sport.
Liu Xiang returned to the sports school and trained himself hard. When his grandma died of cancer, Liu Xiang vowed that he would do his best to win every competition to repay her love for him.
It was in the early hours of Beijing time when the event broadcasted live by CCTV, the national television station. With his legs pumping with flawless precision, Liu Xiang cleared the first five hurdles perfectly and barely touched the last one. Although he was not the favorite for the gold medal, he soared to an emphatic victory of almost three metres ahead of his competitors.
Big cities like Beijing and Shanghai burst into life and many Chinese fans cried out with hysteria when 21-year-old Liu Xiang led from the front and eventually dashed across the finishing the line to win with ease the men’s 110m hurdles.
Although Liu Xiang’s time of 12.91 seconds is the same as the 11th year-old world record held by Britain’s greatest ever hurdler Colin Jackson in 1993, it was him who received the lion’s share of the spoils.
After recovering from his shock following his stunning victory, Liu Xiang admitted that he has never run under 13 seconds, even in training although he has dreamt of doing better and breaking records.
His coach Sun Haiping was equally thrilled. He explained that Liu Xiang has always been not so good at starting but will usually catch up fast in the latter part of the race. However, through sheer determination and unlimited courage, he has managed to ride on his advantages and overcome his poor start and weaknesses.
Former world champion Colin Jackson, was surprised and chuffed with Liu Xiang’s effortless win. He claimed that it was an extraordinary performance by Liu Xiang who got out really fast and he was greatly impressed with the way the China athletic took the race on.
Then in 2006, less than two years from the Athens Games, the brave Chinese Olympic champion broke the world record in the men’s 110m hurdles. The new record time of 12.88 seconds came about at the IAAF Super Grand Prix meeting in Lausanne.
Liu Xiang was very happy and excited in achieving the status as the world’s fastest hurdler. He claimed to have known since the Olympic Games in Athens that he should be able to do better.
On 15 July 2007, Liu Xiang will compete in the Norwich Union British Grand Prix in Don Valley stadium in Sheffield. Liu Xiang hopes to get a strong performance in Sheffield as the race is very important to him. He aims to be in good form since he is taking part in the World Championships in Osaka in Aug / Sep 2007.
Although he has already won an Olympic gold, it has been his dream to win the World title. He also vowed to defend his title when the Olympics come to Beijing in 2008.
Our life is seldom a bed of roses. It is more like a track full of hurdles.
At times we face difficulties and problems in our daily lives.
We should treat them as challenges in our daily lives!
Are we going to stand and look at every stumbling block?
Or are we going to say a positive mind-set and sail across all of them?
Do you dare to change and make a difference in your life?
The choice should be obvious to you, right?
Whether a person will become successful actually starts with his state of mind.
You are what you think.
Positive thinking is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Our mind believes in what we tell it. When we keep telling ourselves something repeatedly now and then, it somehow gets itself registered in our brain. Step by step, our mind learns to accept and slowly believes in it. Eventually, we will become what we have been telling ourselves.
When your thoughts and beliefs are positive, you will attract more positive circumstances or products into your life and success is just a step away. Success is not a secret that avails to only an elite few. It can be achieved by anyone at any time.
How can this happen? Goals and success are not and certainly cannot be achieved overnight.
It is actually the power of our own beliefs that is working. In other words, it is the power of our positive thinking.
Simply put, when we feed our brain with something, we begin to attract what we keep thinking about. Once our brain has accepted and digested the information, it will command our body to act. The actions are usually instigated by our belief. It is because we actually believe in it that our bodies are moving in momentum with our thoughts. The only variability is the strength of our belief. If our belief is durable and strong, our brains are most likely going to act on it.
Every action will be met with a balanced reaction. Any action we take will create some kind of consequence or circumstance. We must think positively so as to maintain our belief and desire to succeed. What we manifest will gradually be turned into our reality and eventually it will also create our destiny.
However, all worthwhile achievements take time. Once a vision has been set as a permanent fixture into our positive thoughts, we must cultivate the fortitude of consistence and persistence in our efforts. Everyday, our actions will shape or mould our reality according to what we want it to be. These steps will take us closer towards getting our crystalline goals.
Be prepared that lots of work and efforts have to be put in. It is not going to be an easy path. There will be obstacles and failures along the road to success. You must treat these hurdles as opportunities to learn. You have to overcome them and do not let them slow down your progress. Gradually with time, you will attract positive circumstances, encounters, ideas and even people who can and will assist you to soar towards your goals.
Once, there lived a little boy named Nick. He was seven years old.
Nick was born with a badly twisted, crippled left leg. After going through several operations in the first seven years of his life, he was eventually able to limp around, with a big metal brace supporting the bad leg.
Nick loved baseball. On his way home from school, he would passed by a big public field everyday. This is the place where all the older boys in the neighborhood played baseball.
Nick would always sit by the edge of the field for at least half an hour and watched the boys played. Sometimes, he would get up and cheered with all his might whenever a player hit a home run.
One day, his father told him gently, “Nic, if you have a chance to play baseball, you will not be able to run that fast because of your left leg”.
Do you know how Nick answered his father?
Give it a try!
Nick said, “Da, when I play baseball, I shall not need to run at all. I shall hit the ball so hard that it will fly out of the field. Then I shall slowly walk to the home base”.
Have you ever been in Nick’s position?
Would you listen to what Nick’s dad had told him?
Or would you believe in yourself like the way Nick does?
What dreams or visions do you have? What is holding you back from achieving these goals?
The actual truth is the fear of failure that is hindering you. It is the fear of failing that you do not dare to give your dreams a try.
That is why the first and most important thing to do is to believe in yourself just like Nick did in the above story. Believe that you deserve to have the very best in life. Believe in the possibilities and believe that your dreams can come true.
There may be a lot of hard work involved before you can realize your dreams. But if you do not give yourself this opportunity, who will?
It may begin with a vision or an aim in life. Start focusing on that vision. Your persistent actions along with determination and commitment are the basis in accomplishing your goals. Before you know it, your dreams have been turned into reality!
It all started with the miracle of believing in yourself…
How many of us are really satisfied with the achievements in our lives?
Many of us passionately believed that we deserved better…
Deep down in our hearts as well as subconsciously, we want to be successful in life…
Is your life going where you want it?
To achieve your goals, start to plan and take action…
You are worth it!
Will you try?
Or…
Will you do it?
